On Friday at Buganda Road Court, magistrate Asuman Muhumuza told the leader of the People’s Front for Transition Rtd. Col. Dr Kizza Besigye that his court would not be turned into a drama theatre where the veteran opposition figure would play his ping pong games with the regime.
The embittered magistrate made the reiterations as he opposed the bail application of Dr. Besigye after noting that he has repeatedly committed the same offence within a space of 11 days even after the same court had granted him bail. Magistrate Asuman declared Besigye a prolific comedian and movie star who is striving to keep relevant in the political space of this country. The magistrate was guided by the recent comments made by the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango who moments after Besigye’s arrest stated that the former FDC president is fighting to keep in the headlines and hence stay relevant in the political spheres.
“Besigye cannot reconcile with the fact that his time to shine is no more,” Onyango said. “We know he wants to remain a topic of discussion on the lips of Ugandans,” he added.
This morning while appearing on Pearl FM radio, former senior presidential press secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi said Dr. Besigye is simply idle and redundant which is why he prefers to be kept inside prison where he can have meditation and vacations.
“You think Besigye wants bail?, No, he doesn’t. He wants to stay inside prison,” Mirundi said. “At 67 years, Besigye has no time for leisure. To him, prison is a better place to be,” Mirundi added.
The magistrate Asuman Muhumuza on Friday ruled that Besigye and his accomplice Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku serve the remaining days of June in Luzira maximum prison till they return to court on July 1st to have their bail application heard. He however warned the former bush war Museveni physician to stop turning the courts into a drama theater guiding that all those who want to act comedy can join Alex Muhangi at comedy store.
