Joined the race as a dangerous substitute at a time when the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe relied on his draconian laws to evict the NUP party aspirants, Alionzi Dangote has become a dominant figure in the politics of the Ivory Tower.

The year three Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering scholar was unveiled this very week at the NUP party Secretariat at Kamwokya, and attained the anointment of the principal Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine who flagged him off to go and advance the gospel of the revolution to the Makerere populace.

NRM’s Hussein Ibrah leads his largely UPDF, ISO, CMI, LDU and CID dominated procession as the state intends to impress that their candidate has numbers

He is tusstling it out with the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party candidate Tukamushaba Justus, a son to a high ranking Major in the elite presidential guard dubbed Special Forces Command, and NRM’s Hussein Ibrah, a key mobilizer for the Muhoozi project in Makerere. Without any doubts, Dangote seems to be the under dog but his rhetorical prowess has made him a centre of discussion at the hill, with students already jumping on his wagon.

His debutant Friday pre-Idd procession has been a success, that unlike NRM’s Hussein Ibrah’s which predominantly had UPDF recruits, ISO operatives and CID personnel and LDU.

A guild presidential debate was supposed to kick off today but NRM’s Hussein Ibrah citing no justification opted to be a no show but credible sources say the second year social sciences candidate cannot afford to indulge in intellectual discource.

“He feared the debate and decided to hide in his room,” said one of his colleagues. “He switched off his phones since he didn’t want the EC PRO to sanction him for the debate,” he added.

Ever since his ascension to politics in 2018, Bobi Wine has managed to produce four consecutive guild presidents at Makerere University which perhaps is why the administration is trying to trim that rhetoric. The incumbent Shamim Nambassa herself is a stalwart of the National Unity Platform party. If elected by students, Alionzi will be the 88th guild president to lead Makerere as it braces for the centenary celebrations which will ensue without its signature building dubbed Ivory Tower.
