The opposition National Unity Platform Party has this Wednesday morning flagged off a consignment of 2500kgs of maize flour (Posho) and 2500kgs of beans to the hunger hit Karamoja subregion.

The consignment of food items has been flagged off with some coordinators of the Karamoja sub-region witnessing the dispatching of the relief items. Karamoja is apparently grappling with a hunger crisis that has scene bone-thin children succumb to malnutrition. Area lawmakers led by Ik Hillary and Faith Nakut appealed to government to send food aid to the region before the crisis would escalate death tolls. The office of the Prime Minister says it has already sent close to 200,000 tonnes of food aid to rescue the situation for the coming 4 months. The confirmation has been made by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on the floor of Parliament this afternoon.

NUP says this food will be distributed to several families who are facing a hunger crisis. Several people in Karamoja have reportedly died due to hunger in the past few weeks. The aid comes a day after the party faced criticism for launching a new UGX 5b site where the storied head offices shall be erected in Makerere Kavule, Kawempe division.
