The opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has in a series of tweets faulted their rival NUP party which masterminding the chaotic events at Makerere that left one student dead and scores injured.

“Bewatte was stabbed yesterday evening, in a scuffle that ensued when Justus’s procession was blocked and denied access by NUP supporters & leaders present, at Muk Rugby Grounds for the final guild rally. The incident left many of our supporters & our MUK chapter leaders injured,” FDC tweeted. “Such extremists must be condemned by right thinking members of society. We strongly condemn this political hooliganism that hoisted the violent tragic action, & as we advise other institutions. Politics should be a contestation of ideas, not a contestation of insults,& physical attacks,” reads another tweet on the FDC handle thread.

Mak council cracks whip

Makerere University administrators have resolved to temporarily halt the guild activities following the Thursday night altercation between supporters of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party and the National Unity Platform camp.
In council resolutions passed this afternoon, council has reolved that the guild activities be halted citing hooliganism and extremism exhibited by participants.
Makerere 87th guild president Shamim Nambassa says security must expedite investigations and round up all the involved culprits that murdered the Uganda Christian University student who had come to campaign for his colleague.
“We hope the security can find all the perpetrators of this terror. It’s very absurd that a life has been lost. My thoughts and sympathies are with the bereaved family and the UCU fraternity,” she said.
